Do I need a will or a trust?

Is a will prepared by an LDA legally valid?
A will's validity depends on the document meeting California's requirements and on being signed and witnessed correctly, not on who typed it. Beacon prepares the document at your direction and makes sure the execution requirements are followed.
Can Beacon witness my will?
California excludes certain people from serving as witnesses, and it is best practice for witnesses to be disinterested parties. Beacon will explain the requirements and help you arrange it properly.
When should I talk to an attorney instead?
If your estate involves a blended family, a beneficiary with special needs, a business, significant tax exposure, or anyone likely to contest it, an attorney is the right call. Beacon will say so rather than take the work.
Does a will avoid probate?
A will does not by itself avoid probate. How probate applies to a particular estate is a legal question. Beacon can prepare probate paperwork separately if an estate does need to go through it.
