  • Start to finish, not just the forms

I am not an attorney. I can only provide self-help services at your specific direction.

Most document services hand you a folder. This one does not.

The usual arrangement with a document preparer is that you pay for the forms, they get filled out, and then the rest is yours: the filing, the copies, the service, the deadline you did not know about, and the trip back to the clerk when something comes back.

Beacon works the matter from the first call to the last filing. The paperwork gets prepared, filed and served at your direction, and the next step is flagged before it becomes urgent rather than after.

One person, start to finish

The same person who takes your first call prepares your documents and follows the matter through. Nothing gets handed off.

Payment plans, in writing

Legal paperwork tends to arrive at the worst possible financial moment. A contracted payment plan means cost is not the reason it does not get done.

Plain answers about cost

You find out what it costs at the free consultation, before any work starts and before you commit to anything.

Honest about the limits

If your matter needs an attorney, you will be told at the consultation rather than after you have paid for documents that will not fix it.

What a Legal Document Assistant can and cannot do

A Legal Document Assistant is a defined role in California, and the limits are the whole point of it. Here they are, in the largest type on the page rather than the smallest.

What Beacon can do

  • Prepare your documents

Court forms, family paperwork and civil filings, prepared at your specific direction.

  • Give you general procedural information

What the courts publish about how a process works, what the deadlines are, and what a filing generally involves.

  • File and serve at your direction

Filing with the court, arranging service, ordering certified copies and recording with the county — not just handing you a folder.

  • Tell you when you need an attorney

If your matter needs legal advice or representation, you will hear that plainly instead of being sold paperwork that will not solve it.

What Beacon cannot do

  • Give you legal advice

No opinions, no recommendations, and no answer to “what should I do”. That is attorney work, and it is not a formality.

  • Choose your forms or your strategy

Selecting which form fits your situation is a legal decision. You decide; the documents follow.

  • Represent you in court

A Legal Document Assistant cannot appear for you, speak for you at a hearing, or negotiate on your behalf.

  • Promise you an outcome

Nobody can tell you what a judge will decide. Anyone who does is telling you something they cannot know.

I am not an attorney. I can only provide self-help services at your specific direction.

Common questions

If your question is not here, call or text and ask. Procedural questions are always fair to ask.

Is Beacon of Trust a law firm?

No. Beacon of Trust Legal Documents & Services is a legal document preparation service. I am not an attorney. I can only provide self-help services at your specific direction.

What does a Legal Document Assistant actually do?

A Legal Document Assistant prepares legal documents for people who are representing themselves, at those people's specific direction. An LDA cannot give legal advice, select forms for you, or represent you in court.

How much does document preparation cost?

It depends on the document type and how much paperwork the matter involves. You find out at the free 30-minute consultation, before any work begins. Payment plans are available.

Is the consultation really free?

Yes. The first 30 minutes costs nothing, whether it happens in person, by phone or by video, and there is no obligation afterwards.

How do I know whether I need an attorney instead?

If your matter is contested, if the other side has a lawyer, or if the question you want answered starts with “should I”, you are looking for legal advice. Beacon will tell you that directly rather than take the work.

Do you serve people outside Redding?

Yes. Beacon serves Redding and all of Shasta County, including Anderson, Shasta Lake, Cottonwood and Palo Cedro, with virtual consultations for the communities further out.

Can documents be prepared without coming into the office?

Usually. Consultations and most preparation can happen by phone or video. Some documents require a notarized or witnessed signature that has to happen in person, and you will be told which ones.

How quickly can my documents be ready?

Timing depends on the document type, the court's requirements, and how quickly all of the information is provided. If you are working against a deadline, say so on the first call so it can be planned around.

Tell Beacon what you are dealing with.

The first 30 minutes are free, and you will get a straight answer about whether this is document preparation or something that needs an attorney.

I am not an attorney. I can only provide self-help services at your specific direction.
